Yesterday, I went with David for coffee at our usual place, Diva’s. After a year and a half, the Covid 19 face mask rule has been lifted and we could see what Nicole, our barista, looks like. She was even lovelier and livelier than I had imagined.
We sat outside under a patio umbrella and occasionally talked with the other people drinking coffee. They smiled: we smiled. Oh, the happy joy of reading faces, sociable and responsive faces, of being among people with noses, lips, and expressions.
The heart was never so quick to the message of the eyes.
